Chicago is considered the third most populated city in the United States and is one of the most visited cities by tourist from all over the world. Chicago is a very rich and versatile vacation hub topped with various sights to see, from skyscrapers, museums, zoos, shopping centers, and even restaurants.

Skyscrapers

One of the tourist destinations one should start with during a Chicago vacation is the John Hancock Observatory. The observatory is located at the top of the John Hancock Center, the 12th tallest building or skyscraper in the world. The observatory lets one view the land area of Chicago. Like the John Hancock Observatory, the Sears Tower Skydeck also lets one see the whole of Chicago and its architecture. Its added attraction is the interactive and museum-quality exhibits that highlight the city’s history and culture.

Museums

Almost every tourist destination has a museum that features the city’s history, culture, and people. The Field Museum, one of the oldest museums in the city, can be found at the Chicago’s Museum Campus. The museum features the wonders of natural sciences such as biological and anthropological collections and specimens which significantly scientific research and education programs. One of the highlights of the Field Museum that one should not miss during a Chicago vacation is the largest and best preserved complete relic of the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Another must-see museum during a Chicago vacation is the Adler Planetarium which can also be found at the Chicago Museum Campus. If the Field Museum exhibits natural sciences, the Adler Planetarium features the wonders of the universe. The Adler Planetarium is the only one in the world that has two-full sized planetarium theatres that allow the visitors for an up-close view of the magnificence of the stars and other heavenly bodies.

Another must-see museum that Chicago family vacation packages cannot afford to forget to include is the Wonder Works. Wonder Works is an interactive museum for children and young adults. If fortunate, a Chicago vacation entourage can catch a special event from the children’s museums such as carnivals, food fairs, art and sports contests, and other outdoor family activities.

Zoos

When having a Chicago family vacation, it is highly recommended to visit two of the country’s finest zoos, Lincoln Park Zoo and Brookfield Zoo. The whole family will not only have fun and enjoy their Chicago vacation but also be educated of the wonders of the animal kingdom. Lincoln Zoo is located at the northern part of the city which is open for everyday of the year. Though it is one of the oldest zoos in the country, its facilities are one of the most modern. On the other hand, the Brookfield Zoo is situated at the western part of the city and is known for its natural animal habitat barriers instead of the usual cages. Some Chicago vacation packages offer Safaris and even zoo trips complete with a guide, pamphlets, souvenirs, and other freebies.

Shopping Stores

A Chicago vacation experience wouldn’t be complete without shopping around the metro. Several Chicago vacation packages give shopping discount coupons to some of the most popular shopping stores such as The Shops at the North Bridge, Macy’s, and the Water Tower Palace.

Restaurants

A Chicago vacation experience wouldn’t be complete without eating in some of the best restaurants in town. Chicago is best known for its variety of food establishments, from pizza, pasta, hotdogs, steak, Chinese food, and even tacos, name it and Chicago has a restaurant for you. Some famous food establishments include, Pizzeria Uno for pizza, Portillos for sandwiches, Hot Chocolate for desserts, and Gibson’s for steaks.
