Effective Face Skin Care
58
Different strokes for different folks. When it comes to skin care for the face, there is no such thing as “one regimen fits all”. Aside from the different needs of male and female skin, the skin is also basically divided into five skin types – normal, oily, dry, combination and sensitive skin. You can even add mature skin into the list, as those who have it needs more specific and specialized skin care. These five skin types will have varying skin care routines. What may work for those with dry skin may cause those with oily skin to break out. You should try to determine your skin type so that you can determine the best skin care plan and products for you. Fortunately, there are a lot of products out in the market that cater to the different skin types.
Read through the following descriptions to know which skin type is the closest match to your own. The list also includes how to treat each specific type, including some organic and natural treatments you can use:
Normal Skin
Those blessed with this have faces that are neither oily nor dry. Although pores are visible, it is usually small and unclogged. It is the most ideal skin type as it requires minimal attention, as compared to the other skin types, although it may occasionally break out in spots.
To care for it, wash your face twice a day – in the morning and at night. Be sure to use a gentle facial soap. In addition, put in some moisturizer, as well as an eye cream. During the day, you can also refresh your face with the use of a toner. Try an egg yolk mask once a week.
Dry Skin
Dry skin feels thin and papery, with very small pores. After washing your face, it may feel overly taut. It has a tendency to have flaky patches. Use a mild facial wash and an oil-free moisturizer. You can also try to make a mask out of mayonnaise or a combination of pureed papaya, peach, avocado and banana. These are applied to the skin as a mask to infuse more moisture into the skin.
Oily Skin
The face tends to feel heavy and greasy, with large pores. The usual problem with this is that it looks shiny, unless you manage this with makeup and blotters. Oily skin is more prone to break outs, whiteheads, blackheads and acne. Start with a gentle face wash which will get rid of the oiliness without removing the moisture. Then use a gentle astringent and moisturizer. Your moisturizer should be light and watery and the face should be blotted with a tissue so that the face will not look too shiny. You should also try to make a mask out of pureed fresh tomatoes.
Combination skin
As the name suggests, the face has both dry and oily areas. The oiliness is usually found in the T-zone, while the checks tend to be dry. The break outs in combination skin are usually located in the T-zone. In the mornings, begin with a foaming facial wash to ward off blackheads while cleansing the skin. During evenings, use a cream cleanser. Be sure to gently remove this with a cotton ball. Two astringents must be used – a mild one for dry areas and a stronger one for the T-zone. Moisturizer may be used on all the areas, but the concentration should be on the dry parts.
Sensitive Skin
Those with sensitive skin must be extra careful, as the skin is prone to irritations. Only the mildest and gentlest of products should be used here, to avoid stinging, chafing and burning. Don’t wash the face with soap and even facial wash. Use a hypoallergenic cleansing lotion instead. When using a moisturizer, check that it is unperfumed to avoid irritation
