By midas_touch
So what's up with the craze on skin care treatment?.....well....“Vanity, thy name is woman.” Skincare – with its long list of must-dos and must-haves – is often attributed to one’s vanity. But one can always argue that having the best skin care treatment is not just about vanity. Looking good is an essential part of life. You are, after all, presenting yourself to the world and the first thing they will see is your face. Also, taking good care of your skin not only makes you more confident, it also protects your skin from skin damage. Cleansing, moisturizing, facial toning and regular exfoliation are just the basics that will provide a good foundation to great skin. But you can go several steps further to make sure that you truly preserve your youthful looks and keep the various signs of aging (wrinkles, dark spots, warts, etc) at bay.
There are a lot of skin care treatments you can try – there are all-natural treatments, treatments with the use of laser, anti-aging treatments and so on. What’s important is for you to determine, with the help of a qualified doctor, the best skin care treatment for you, one that is suited for your skin type. Let’s have a look at the different skin care treatments, shall we?
Mechanical Dermabrasion This process, simply put, is gently sanding off the upper layers of the skin. This encourages the formation of fresher and suppler skin. This is especially useful to remove deep scars, tattoos and deep wrinkles. However, this may not work well with birthmarks and skin defects that are congenital. Since this sloughs up the top layers of the skin, you should take care to protect your fact from the sun. Apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. The higher the SPF, the better.
Laser Treatments and surgery Laser light is used in various skin care treatments as it is able to peel very thin layers of the skin. There are many kind of laser treatments – including the CO2 laser and the Erbium Yag laser. Pulse dye lasers remove rosacea and birthmarks, while non-ablative laser surgery erases the effects of photo damage. Other laser treatments include the removal of moles, “permanent” tattoos, warts, wrinkles and precancerous lip growths. For some laser treatments, the drawback is that it takes far longer for the skin to heal. Two weeks’ recovery time is usually the norm.
Medical Microdermabrasion For this treatment, think of sandblasting, but only on a gentler, miniature level. Tiny mineral crystals are used to break up dead cells on the upper layer of the skin. These are able to slough away the old cells so that the new and fresher cells underneath are revealed. With regular sessions, this procedure can smooth away pitting, acne scarring, minor pigmentation problems and fine lines. However, this does not remove deep wrinkles and scars.
Chemical Peel Peels may vary in depth. These are procedures where the top layers of the skin are peeled or removed by use of chemicals such as glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid and phenol. When the skin’s top layers are removed, the skin responds by growing fresher looking skin. Peels are useful in getting rid of pigmentation, age spots and fine lines. However, care must be given to ensure that there is no scarring or changes in skin color.
Skin fillers To erase wrinkles and deep lines, dermatologists are also known to use skin fillers so that the skin is smoothened and will result in a more youthful look. Fillers include hyaluronic acid, collagen and the more popular Botox. These fillers are injected into the affected area. The drawback with this kind of treatment is that it only lasts for 3 to 6 months. Then you need to have another go at it again.
The best thing to do, if you ever decide to go for a skin care treatment, is to ask your dermatologist or cosmetic doctor about it. You should discuss the pros and cons of each.
