Venice, the capital of Italy, is known for its canals, gondolas, and great food. All these and more can be experienced while having a vacation in Venice. But before planning the perfect holiday in Venice there are some things a tourist should consider.

Weather

What better way to enjoy a Venice vacation than to spend it in time with the city’s festivities and celebrations. The best time to have a vacation in Venice is at spring, during the months of March to May. It is also during this time that Easter is celebrated in the area. One should sure catch some of the city’s popular and special events during these months such as the Carnivale, Fiesta de San Marco, and the La Sensa. On the other hand, the weather between the months of October and March are quite inconvenient for tourists to have a Venice vacation because of the heavy rain, snow, and fog that may hinder one’s touring of the city.

Airport

Tourists need not to think about connected flights or moving from city to city because Venice has its own airport, the Marco Polo Venice airport. Some Venice vacation packages offer transportation to the designated hotel, for those that not, there are water taxis or motor boats and shuttle buses of the airline that can help one get to the city center.

Transportation

For those who are planning to have a Venice vacation for the first time, knowing the means of transportation around the city is a must. While planning for a vacation in Venice, one should be readily prepared with an updated and good quality road map that shows the entire city’s street names and water routes. Some Venice vacation packages offer additional services that one may need during their stay in the city, such as car rental services. There are a lot of indoor and outdoor paid car parks because some inns and apartments do not have big parking spaces to accommodate quite a number of cars. Car parks are also near the canals for faster changing of transportation. There is also a train stop in Venice, however, from the foot of the train, one still needs to walk to reach Venice’s city center.

Unlike any other tourist destinations that have public land transportation, such as taxis and buses, readily available near airports and commercial establishments, Venice is different for it is more accessible by water. Tourists should be sad about this because there are a lot of canals and water-bus routes within and around the city and are all part of the Venetian holiday experience. Some of the most popular means of transportation in Venice are the gondola, traghetto, and the vaporetto. Riding the gondola around the city is relatively expensive and almost equates to renting a limousine by land. If one’s Venice vacation is on a budget, one can opt to take the traghetto which is the cheapest and widely used primary means of transportation of the locals. The vaporetto, like the traghetto, is also convenient for people who are on a vacation in Venice because tickets good for a day to a week are available.

Accommodation

In planning the perfect Venice vacation, booking the perfect hotel wouldn’t be far behind. Several Venice vacation packages offer everything, from airfare, accommodation, transportation, and even dining. Some of the most popular Venetian hotels are the Fiaschetteria Toscana, Al Portego, Hotel Altieri, and Da Fiore which are often offered in vacation packages and can also be separately booked online. However, for those who are really on a tight budget, there are a lot of clean, safe, and relatively cheap apartments and inns in the area. One just has to make sure that the place they are staying is very accessible because land transportation in the area is only by foot.
