Hip Hop Jewelry

By

Jewelries are meant to beautify and enhance one’s fashion and style and Hip Hop community has come up with its own range of Jewelries to cater to their particular niche. With Hip Hop becoming extremely popular nowadays, more and more people tend to follow the example of famous Hip Hop Icons. These types of jewelry are worn by famous people thus creating an outburst of new and exciting fashion.  Being widely used by Hip Hop singers and rappers, these jewelries are also being popularized by Hollywood Celebrities. The popularity of these Hip Hop Jewelries does not only influence the people behind the Hip Hop and Rap industry but also others who love fashion in general. The love for these types of jewelries has a great expanse over Celebrities, Sports Celebrities, Fashionistas and the fans of these equally famous people.

Trends of Hip Hop Jewelry

Current trends are set by these “Fashion Icons” are spread throughout the fan base of these Hip Hop artists thus allowing Hip Hop Jewelry to be popular not only to young adults but also to people who enjoy dressing up like their idols. These trends usually encompass time because it only gets better but the idea behind Hip Hop Jewelry doesn’t change. Having their own personalized lingo, these Hip Hop jewelries are labeled in local Hip hop terms as bling-blings or blings, pimped out accessories, iced out jewelries and even grillz for those jewelries that are being used to decorate a person’s teeth.

Real Hip Hop Jewelry

The market for these Hip Hop Jewelries is extensive due to the price range that these jewelries have to offer.  The first market for Hip Hop Jewelry is those people who can afford to shell out $1000-$100,000. Prices depend on the amount of precious stones and the materials that are used in creating these jewelries. These types of Hip Hop Jewelry are usually made from platinum and different variants of gold. The prices of these Hip Hop Jewelries go up depending on the number and quality of the precious stones that are used to embellish and decorate these jewelries. Usual patrons of this “real” Hip Hop Jewelry are the Hip Hop artists themselves. Hollywood Celebrities, Sports Celebrities and Rich people are also not affected by the exorbitant amount that Hip Hop Jewelry would actually cost.  Jewelers are charging excessive amounts or money because of the labor exhausted in creating these jewelries.

Fake and Imitation Hip Hop Jewelry

As the prices of the materials that are used in these Hip Hop Jewelries go up, jewelers find more ways to be able to cater to the market class that cannot afford the more expensive ones. With the advancement of technology and further research, materials used to create the real ones are substituted with materials that will come at a cheaper price. These could come in other forms of metal, steel and silver but will not sacrifice the beauty of the jewelry. Using inexpensive gemstones like cubic zirconia to imitate the brilliance of diamonds, quartz, topaz, sapphire, garnet and the like make Hip Hop Jewelry as well. These gemstones are not cheap but they offer richness in color and are usually perfect for accessorizing Hip Hop Jewels. “Imitation” Hip Hop Jewelry also comes cheaper when it is massively produced rather than the made-to-order type.

Forms of Hip Hop Jewelry

Hip Hop Jewelry does not only come in forms of jewelry such as Rings, Earrings, Necklaces and Pendants. It also comes in form of Watches, Belt Buckles, Jean Chains, Shoe Grillz and even Teeth Grillz. Any piece of accessory and jewelry that can be totally embellished with bold colors and gemstones will fall under the category of Hip Hop Jewelry. Anything massive, bold and layered together will also be considered a part of the Hip Hop Fashion thus allowing the Hip Hop Jewelry category to expand more. Because of this, Hip Hop Jewelry are continuously patronized by people even if it has been around for several decades already.

Hip hop jewelry was not intentionally made to be massive and loud just for the sole purpose of showing off wealth or money but rather a symbol of the journey that one had to endure to be able to reach the point of success of the artists that continue to use these jewelries. Hip Hop Jewelry will continue to be patronized by people regardless of how others might disapprove of it. Its popularity was able to encompass time and travel to places outside the United States of America thus making Hip Hop Jewelry perpetual accessory in the money making history of the Hip Hop Industry.

Great post! If done right, I think hip hop jewelery can be very glamorous. There are so many different styles, and the option of customizing the pieces your piece makes it unique.

I really wanted to comment here, because I love hip hop. It is in my soul. And I hate the fact than an article like this could even be posted. Sadly, many of the diamonds and gold pieces worn by rappers are mined in Africa, and those mines are owned by rich white business men. Even more disgusting, these "rappers" spend more on their jewelry than they do on supporting their own community, let alone the very place they get their precious jewelery. It's repulsive, and no true fan of hip hop would care about how much money any artist has. It's about the music and the art, and once they confuse the music with a profit, it loses any chance of being notified as art. This is my opinion, and it comes from my heart, out of love for the music and not out of hatred or jealousy for a man or woman who wears the bling bling beeyotch bullshit attire. Thanks for posting a hub about "Hip Hop Jewelry" which is really should be called "Nigga Rich Jewelry" Thanks
