Language
The languages used in Tahiti are French and Tahitian. So, for tourists who are in for a Tahiti vacation for a couple of days or weeks, it wouldn’t hurt to learn at least basic French words such as bonjour, oui, merci, and au revoir. Even if this is the case, airport and hotel staffs are usually trained to speak in English to tourists so there’s not much of a language barrier. It is recommended to bring a French-English dictionary to understand sign boards and directions for not everything in the island are translated in English.
Climate
The island of Tahiti lies in the Southern Pacific Ocean and it follows that the climate of Tahiti is tropical, warm, and humid which makes it the perfect summer getaway. When one wants to spend the summer on a Tahiti vacation, which usually falls from April to September, expect a very warm and dry temperature. Springtime is a brilliant time to visit Tahiti even though it maybe wet sometimes. December and January is the coldest month in Tahiti with temperatures raging from 3ºC / 37ºF. One the other hand, Tahiti’s rainy season falls from the October to March. Tahiti’s average yearly temperature is from 12°C (2°C in January, 19°C in July).
Peak and Off-PeakSeasons
Peak Seasons: From April to mid- September the flights to Tahiti are usually expensive, since it is the most popular springtime destination in the world. It is also during these months that tourism is at its peak and Tahiti vacation packages are a hit. July and January is the months that fashion show and Bastille Day are occur, that’s why it become a very busy time for the tourist. The fall season features ideal weather, and cultural events start coming back after the August break.
Off-Peak Seasons: There is no distinct “off-peak season” in Paris, but if tourists are searching for cheaper flights and Tahiti vacation packages, consider travelling during the rainy season. Cell phone coverage is also limited and only a few countries have roaming services in Tahiti. The best way to communicate internationally is by phone. There are many phone booths in the area which can be operated and used with a phone card which can be bought from $10 to $50.
Airport Guide
Tahiti has only one airport, the Faa International Airport (FIA), which is located a few kilometres from the island’s town center and capital, Papeete. It usually has six international and two domestic carriers. Like any other airport, FIA has nearby car rental offices, gift shops, restaurants, internet cafes, and duty free shops. Also, one can find the Fare Hei where one can find Tahiti’s display center and market for their handicrafts and other local products. The FIA ensures that one will arrive in Tahiti in a safe and secure manner. In line with security, theft rarely happens in Tahiti so it will not be much of a problem to tourists.
