Passion, libido, weight loss and vitality. This is what an yohimbe supplement can bring. It has long been a popular choice for erectile troubles. African tribes have been known to take it as a cure for ailments such as cough, cold, and fever. But the most popular application for yohimbe is its ability to treat erectile dysfunction. Yohimbe is actually extracted from a tree that grows primarily in the western African region, specifically in the Congo, Cameroon, Nigeria and Gabon. This is extracted either from Corynanthe yohimbe or Pausinystalia yohimbe. The bark is the part of the tree which is used for medicinal purposes. The extract from the bark, which is an alkaloid, is called yohimbine. Take note that it is really yohimbine that you should look into and not yohimbe as it is.

Yohimbe supplements can be used in a number of ways, primarily for the following problems:

Weight Loss. Yohimbe has a thermogenic effect and this makes it an effective supplement in weight loss. It may be particularly effective in getting rid of the "stubborn" fat deposits that won't gett off your body despite diet and sport.

If you are interested in weight loss, then an appetite suppressant can also be of help.

Erectile dysfunction. The yohimbe supplement is considered a natural aphrodisiac. The problem with erectile dysfunction is not that it’s not just about having a healthy lifestyle. As men age, they find it more difficult to be in a physical condition that ensures that they have a satisfying sexual life. This means that men have to look into medications to solve their erectile problems. And yohimbe has been traditionally a remedy for this problem. How does it accomplish this? It encourages blood flow (and thus an erection) by relaxing and dilating the penis’ blood vessels. It is also believed to work on that part of the brain that is connected with sexual arousal and desire. A lot of men take Yohimbe supplements to restore that sexual passion (or the ability to act upon it). Men who take it are said to experience a renewed vitality and a sense of youth. Yohimbe supplement is said to give men an erection that will last as long as eight hours! It should be noted that if the erectile problem is related to organic nerve troubles, yohimbe won’t do you any good.

Depression. Yohimbe effective blocks amonoamine oxidase, an enzyme that is believed to promote depression.

Yohimbe supplement is also used to treat dry mouth, a lack of libido in women and autonomic failure. People are met with varying degrees of success for these conditions.

You have to remember that yohimbe should be used with care. A bit too much and it’s toxic, a bit too little and it won’t be effective. There is really a thin line between a dose that’s effective and a dose that could adversely affect you. Various individuals have different levels of tolerance for yohimbe, so you should take care to discover yours before you take the full dose. If you feel that you have taken too much, you should immediately seek medical help.

It also reacts negatively with nasal decongestants and other medicines that contain phenylpropanolamine. Those who are also taking anti-depressants should also avoid this. And when you’re taking yohimbe supplements, you must take note to avoid cheese, salami, banana, chicken liver, salted dried fish, red wine and other foods that contain tyramine.

You should also be prepared for its side effects. Sleep will be next to impossible (and this may be a good thing if you are so inclined) for the next hours. Some people who are on yohimbe supplement have been known to have a hard time sleeping for up to 20 hours. Other side effects are headaches, palpitations, sweating, skin flushing, anxiety attacks, insomnia, nausea and dizziness and an escalated blood pressure. In worse cases, it may even cause hallucinations, psychosis, paralysis, renal failure and even death (in the event of an overdose).

That is why it is very essential that you consult a doctor even before you start taking it. Also, those who suffer from heart problems (related with low blood pressure or high blood pressure), stomach ulcers, inflammation of the sexual organs, liver disease, post-traumatic stress and panic disorder should not take yohimbe supplements. The same goes for children, elderly people, and pregnant or lactating women. The list goes on to include people who are into drugs (this includes those that take narcotics, antihistamines, caffeine, tranquilizers, sedatives, antihistamines and amphetamines, as well as alcohol). That said, this medicine, as well as any other medicine, should be secured and kept out of reach of children.
